I love the process of painting. I often mix oil paint with cold wax and slap the paint on large canvases using palette knives. The wax gives it a fairly matt and sculptural look. While working I am constantly solving problems and I often find relationships between areas of intensity and areas of calm or nothingness. I have been influenced by the fluid qualities of American art during the 1950’s and to a lesser extent by Minimalism during the 1960’s. I often feel frustration and angst while painting and then satisfaction once I feel a piece is complete. The process challenges me.
